Heina is a district of the municipality of Morschen in the north Hessian Schwalm-Eder district .

geography

Heina is located on the right side of the Fulda valley in a depression on the southern slope of the Wildsberg, in the east of the district at the foothills of the Knüllgebirge . The federal highway 83 and the high-speed line Hanover – Würzburg run southwest of Heina . The railway line runs through the Wildsberg tunnel near the village .

history

The place is mentioned for the first time in 1305 as Hagen . Later it appears under the names Indagine (1316), Hayn (1333) and zum Heine (1465).

The place belonged to the Morschen court , which belonged to the Haydau monastery . Heina has belonged to the Spangenberg office since the Reformation (Salbuch von Spangenberg 1540).

Territorial reform

The municipality of Morschen was formed in the course of the regional reform in Hesse on January 1, 1974 by virtue of state law through the merger of the previously independent municipalities Altmorschen, Heina, Konnefeld and Neumorschen. The municipalities of Binsförth (April 1, 1972), Eubach (July 1, 1971) and Wichte (December 31, 1971) had already been incorporated into the Altmorschen municipality . Altenmorschen became the seat of the municipal administration and local districts were set up for all former municipalities . At the same time as the merger to form the Morchen community, it changed to the newly formed Schwalm-Eder district.

Economy and Infrastructure

Economic structure

Heina consists of an old town center with half-timbered houses, which are grouped around the fortified church, and an outer ring with houses of more recent construction dates. The village boundary is dominated by agriculture.

traffic

You can reach Heina from Altmorschen through the Waldbachtal via the county road 133. The next train station is in Altmorschen on the Kassel-Bebra line .

Culture and sights

Historic town center

Half-timbered houses from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries are grouped around a medieval brick fortified church . In accordance with the rural character of the village, the buildings are joined by farms that are still in operation today. A stone court table has been preserved near the church .

Summit cross

According to regional tradition, Boniface is said to have preached in AD 723 south of Heina on an exposed hill high above the Fulda valley. Because of the crowd at his sermon, this hallway is called "crowd". An oak that grew at this point is said to have been felled by Boniface. To commemorate this, a new oak tree was planted in 2001 and a memorial stone with a memorial plaque was put up. At Easter 2012 a new wooden summit cross was erected for prayer. The Way of St. James leads past the cross .

Wildsberghütte

The log house , frequented as a barbecue area and excursion destination, stands on a hill halfway between Heina and Beiseförth (Malsfeld). From there, there is a good view of the Fulda valley at the foot of the Wildsberg.

Giant sequoia

The tree is on the upper road on the edge of the village in an open field. It was planted by Nils Seethaler in the 1990s and is one of the rare examples of these giant North American trees in northern Hesse.

Leather corner

The public green space between Oberer Strasse and Waldstrasse, known as the “leather corner”, marks the location of a former leather tannery . It is considered a testimony to the historical craft history of the region. There is a sign on site.

Murder beech

The murder beech, a dead tree rib, was evidence of a historical murder case reconstructed by Waltari Bergmann in the early 19th century. After the dead tree fell, the notice board was attached to an adjacent beech tree and an information board was added. The course is located in the forest halfway between Heina and Beiseförth (Malsfeld).
