The Spangenberg Office of the Landgraviate of Hesse was entrusted with the administration of the courts and landgrave properties in the vicinity of the city of Spangenberg .

The first information about an office in the area around Spangenberg was recorded in the 13th century. In 1350 Hermann IX sold. von Treffurt Burg, Amt and Stadt Spangenberg , with the Haydau Monastery in Altmorschen , which he founded in 1235 , to Landgrave Heinrich II of Hesse for a total of 8,000 silver marks.

The Spangenberg office was created in the same year through the merger of the former courts of Morschen , Mörshausen , Schemmern and Auf der Landena with the Spangenberg rule.

Administrative reform and dissolution in 1821

In 1821 there was an administrative and territorial reform in the Landgraviate of Hesse. In the course of this reform, the offices were dissolved, with the majority of the office in Spangenberg being transferred to the newly created district of Melsungen . The district Eschwege were, incorporated Gehau, Hetzerode, Mäkelsdorf, Eltmansee and pride Hausen Schemmern Burghofen. The localities of Obergude, Niedergude, Heyerode and Diemerode came to the district of Rotenburg . The Spangenberg Justice Office was set up to handle jurisdiction.
