Schemmern is a district of Waldkappel in the Werra-Meißner district in northern Hesse .

Geographical location

Schemmern is located about 5.2 km southwest of the Waldkappel core town in the Stölzinger Mountains . Almost 3 km (as the crow flies ) east-north-east of the village through which the Schemmerbach flows, the goat's cradle rises up with an observation tower and to the west the area rises to the Stolzhäuser ridge . State road  3226 ( Gehau –Schemmern– Burghofen ) leads through the village .

history

The place was first mentioned in a document around the year 1000 under the name Scamberaha . In 1939 it had 394 inhabitants. In the course of the regional reform in Hesse , Schemmern came to the city of Waldkappel on December 31, 1971. Before that, the village belonged to the Eschwege district .
