Diemerode is a district of Sontra in the Werra-Meißner district in northern Hesse .

Geographical location

Diemerode lies west of the core town of Sontra. State road 3249 runs through the village .

history

The place is first mentioned in 1363, when Diemerode was bought by Heinrich von Hundelshausen. Ten Jewish families lived in the village for a long time.

Diemerode was incorporated into Sontra as part of the regional reform in Hesse on December 31, 1971 .

Culture and sights

  • The old church dates from the 13th century. In 1757 a hall was added. The organ dates from 1784. A defensive wall can still be seen on the north side . Numerous gravestones from the 18th and 19th centuries bear witness to the piety and history of the Protestant community in Diemerode.
