history

The place is first mentioned in 1408 as "Dornhospach", in a Boyneb. Rev. (Heimatmuseum Rotenburg an der Fulda ) from 1460 as "Dornsbach" and listed on Mercator's map from 1592 as "Dürrenhospach". There are different assumptions about the name, so that the name refers to thorn bushes, but also that it goes back to the still small "arid" Hosbach, which flows at its foot. The place used to belong to the Boyneburg (also Boyneburgk, Boineburg called) near Wichmannshausen . In 1654 he came to the landgrave's office in Bischhausen . Since 1821 the place belonged to the Eschwege district . About 100 years ago Thurnhosbach still had about 300 inhabitants; today there are only about 60. There are four full acquisition farmers (2005), all others must work outside.

The municipality of Thurnhosbach was incorporated into the city of Sontra on August 1, 1972 as part of the regional reform in Hesse .

religion

The old church fell in flames in 1899. The restoration took place with the help of Gustav Schönermark . The choir of the church dates from the 14th century, the nave from the 16th century. It was renovated in 2004 as part of the village renewal. Today the evangelical community belongs to Sontra . Above the village is the old cemetery, from which you can enjoy a beautiful panoramic view.

The former Protestant parsonage in the center of the village, which is now under ensemble protection, is today a village community center with a conference and ballroom suitable for events with appropriate kitchen facilities. In addition to the fire station, there is also the Thurnhosbach volunteer fire brigade's grill hut , which can be rented for parties.
