history
Until the 19th century
The first documentary mention of Hösbach comes from 1189 as Hostebach : A Hermann de Hostebach and his son Conrad are named as witnesses in a document from Archbishop Konrad von Mainz. In 1218 the Schmerlenbach convent (in today's district of Winzenhohl) was donated by the von Kugelberg family and granted them the right of patronage over the Hösbach church. In the 13th century the Hostebachs lost their lineage - the name Hösbach remained. Forsthuben (forest farms) have been located in Hösbach since the 14th century and have developed into large farms over time.
On July 1, 1862, the district office of Aschaffenburg was formed, on whose administrative area Hösbach was located.
20th century
In 1939, as everywhere in the German Reich, the designation district was introduced. Hösbach was now one of the 33 communities in the old district of Aschaffenburg . On July 1, 1972, this merged with the Alzenau district in Lower Franconia to form the new Aschaffenburg district.
On the occasion of its 800th anniversary, Hösbach was promoted to market on September 29, 1989 .
Incorporation and border regulations
Due to the border regulation with the community of Goldbach on October 1, 1958, an approx. 22 hectare Goldbacher district area with 41 residential houses and 313 inhabitants changed to Hösbach, while the Hösbacher Gartenhöfe with a total of approx. 100 hectares changed to Goldbach.
As a result of the municipal area reforms in 1972 and 1978, the municipality of Hösbach received additional areas (1981 ha) and another 4500 new citizens. At that time, the formerly independent small communities Wenighösbach (January 1, 1972), Feldkahl (July 1, 1972), Rottenberg and Winzenhohl (both: May 1, 1978) were incorporated. On January 1, 1980, the community-free area Schmerlenbacher Wald was incorporated into Hösbach.
Population development
In 1781 the place consisted of only 120 houses with 591 inhabitants. These numbers rose very slowly in the decades that followed. It was not until 1895 that the number of 2,000 inhabitants was exceeded. In the following years, Hösbach grew faster due to industrialization, especially in nearby Aschaffenburg .

coat of arms
Blazon : “Split by red and silver; in front a growing silver church tower, behind over a vertical green spur a green oak leaf with a golden acorn. "
History of the coat of arms: Hösbach's landmark is the St. Michaels parish church with its characteristic tower. At the request of the municipality, it was included in the coat of arms in a heraldically simplified form. The colors silver and red indicate that the place belonged to the ore monastery of Mainz. Hösbach was the seat of the archbishop's forest officials, who performed the mounted supervisory service in a Spessart district. The existence of the forestry office in Hösbach can be traced back to the 14th century. This administration is indicated in the coat of arms with the attributes of the mounted forest service, the oak leaf and spur. Coat of arms since 1970. |
