The Hanns-Seidel-Gymnasium is a Lower Franconian district high school in Hösbach near Aschaffenburg , which was named after the Bavarian politician Hanns Seidel . It is attended by over 1,250 schoolchildren, mainly from the Aschaffenburg district.

School operations began in Glattbach in 1973 , and in 1976 the school moved to its current location in Hösbach, which also houses the Hösbach state secondary school. A fire caused by welding work in 1999 caused considerable material damage to a new part of the building, so that its opening was delayed. In 2005 an open and bound full day was set up at the Hanns-Seidel-Gymnasium . In addition, the school offers choir and sports classes as well as the class! The school has its own library and several sports facilities.

Today the school offers a natural science-technological (NTG) as well as an economic and social science course with an economic profile (WSG-W). The foreign languages ​​taught are English from the fifth grade and either French or Latin from the sixth grade . Optionally, Spanish can be taken in the 10th grade .

Successes in student competitions

Since 1987, the school has sent over 125 works to the Jugend forscht and Students experiment competitions . 22 state victories in Bavaria in the fields of chemistry (14), physics, technology, the world of work and geo- and spatial sciences, one national victory, three 2nd places and five further placements in the national competitions in recent years are the result. In addition, the school regularly receives the school award at regional level. In the competition "Europe's youth researches for the environment", Hösbacher youth research teams took second places as representatives of Germany in 1995 and 1998. In 2011, pupils from the Hanns-Seidel-Gymnasium received the Federal Chancellor’s special prize in the national youth research competition and were also honored with a special prize at the European level.

The school has also been very successful for many years when it comes to youth debates . In 2018 she reached 1st and 2nd place in the state finals in the 10th - 13th grade and represented the Free State of Bavaria at the Federal Youth Debate Final in Berlin.

In addition, successes in the sports competition youth trained for the Olympics are achieved again and again (table tennis, athletics, golf, football and apparatus gymnastics).

For particularly gifted pupils there is the possibility - in cooperation with other high schools in the region - to take part in enrichment courses. These take place on seven Fridays (full day) and the following Saturdays (half day) and enable the students to deal with topics selected by them from the course offer for a year. There are courses for the lower grades (grades 6 and 7) as well as for the intermediate grades (grades 8 and 9). The courses offered by teachers at the Hanns-Seidel-Gymnasium are often thematically related to the MINT area, but in general it is difficult to assign enrichment courses to a specific school subject.
