Karsten Klein (* 2. December 1977 in Aschaffenburg ) is Bavarian politician of the FDP and Diploma Kaufmann . He has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2017.

Personal and professional

Klein was the student representative at the Hanns-Seidel-Gymnasium Hösbach , is a co-founder of the Aschaffenburg student council and was the deputy district student representative for Lower Franconia . After graduating from high school in 1999, he studied business administration at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg . Before moving into the state parliament, he was marketing and sales manager for a company in Aschaffenburg. In 2014, Klein was managing director of the research facility Zentrum für Telematik e. V. and from 2015 until his move to the Bundestag as a research officer for EU projects at the Aschaffenburg University of Applied Sciences .

He is married and has three children.

Political party

In 1997 he joined the Young Liberals , where he was district chairman of Aschaffenburg and district chairman of Lower Franconia. Klein has been a member of the FDP since 1999.

At the FDP he headed the district association in the city of Aschaffenburg for nine years. He has been district chairman of the FDP Lower Franconia since 2013 and has been the deputy chairman of the Bavarian FDP since 2015 .

Public offices

Klein has been a member of the city council of Aschaffenburg since 2008. In the state election on September 28, 2008, he ran directly in the Aschaffenburg-West constituency , but entered the Bavarian state parliament for the first time via the party list in the Lower Franconia constituency . There he was deputy chairman of the parliamentary group , a member of the State Budget and Financial Affairs Committee and spokesman for the parliamentary group for budgetary policy. He was a member of the committee of inquiry into the purchase of HypoGroup Alpe Adria by Bayerische Landesbank and was a member of the Landesbank commission.

After the FDP could not overcome the five percent hurdle in the state elections in Bavaria in 2013 , he left the state parliament.

Karsten Klein ran as a direct candidate in the constituency of Aschaffenburg and on list number 2 of the Bavarian FDP in the 2017 federal election and entered the 19th German Bundestag via the state list . There he is a full member of the Budget Committee , the Audit Committee and an alternate member of the Defense Committee. In the budget committee he is rapporteur for the FDP parliamentary group for the individual plans of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Defense. He is the regional group leader of the Bavarian Liberals in the German Bundestag.

Other offices

Klein is the chairman of the Protestant Church Association St. Lukas e. V. in Aschaffenburg-Leider, as well as chairman of the sports club TuS 1893 Aschaffenburg-Leider eV He is also a board member of the Thomas Dehler Foundation .

Karsten Klein is a member of the non-partisan European Union Germany , which advocates a federal Europe and the European unification process.
