Alexander Viktorovich Abbot ( Russian Александр Викторович Абт ; born October 22, 1976 in Moscow , Russian SFSR , Soviet Union ) is a former Russian figure skater .
Life
At the age of six, Abbot was sent on the ice by his grandmother to improve his health. Several injuries over the years nearly ended his career. In 1996 he cut his right hamstring muscle with the blade of his skate during a show in Mexico when he collided with the gang. In 2001 he got an infection, as a result of which he collapsed after the freestyle at the European Championships . In 2003 he had to sit out at the European Championships because of an ankle injury. One of his first coaches was Sergei Volkov , who however succumbed to cancer. Abt trained with Alexander Schulin since 2002 , after Rafael Harutjunjan was his trainer for eleven years.
In 1998, Abt won the bronze medal at the European Championships , and in 2002 he became vice European champion. From 2000 to 2002, Abt took part in world championships . His best result was fourth in 2002 . Abbot finished his only Olympic Games in Salt Lake City in 2002 in fifth place. In 2003 he became the Russian champion . During his career, Abt had very strong national competition with Alexei Yagudin and Yevgeny Pljushchenko .
After his amateur career, Abt performed at various shows in Europe, Russia and Japan. In 2008 he appeared together with the actress Anastassija Makejewa in an ice show on the television channel " Pervy kanal ". Also in 2008 he played the role of a figure skater in the television series "Sharki ljod (Hot Ice)", where the other side of this sport, love and betrayal, secret intrigues and true friendship, were shown to the viewer. Along with well-known actors, other figure skating stars played with Alexei Yagudin , Roman Kostomarow , Alexei Tichonow , Povilas Vanagas and Irina Sluzkaja .
In April 1999, Abt married the former ice dancer Jelena Pavlova . Their son was born in March 2000. Abt works together with his wife as a figure skating coach in New Jersey (USA).
