Alexei Wladimirowitsch Tichonow ( Russian Алексей Владимирович Тихонов ; born November 1, 1971 in Kuibyshev ) is a Russian figure skater who started in pair skating for the Soviet Union , Japan and Russia .

Life

Tichonow was born in what is now Samara as the son of Larissa Grigoryevna and Vladimir Nikolayevich. He has a younger brother named Ilya. Tikhonov started figure skating at the age of four. When he came to pair skating, he started with changing partners: Irina Saifutdinowa (with whom he was third in the Junior World Championships in 1989), Jekatarina Murudowa, 1992-1994 with Yukiko Kawasaki for Japan , Irina Woljanskaja, Marija Petrowa and 1998 with Marina Jelzowa . He achieved only moderate success with everyone, with Yukiko Kawasaki he reached 15th place at the 1994 World Cup .

Tikhonov was invited to join Tatyana Tarasova's Russian all-star ice theater. He has appeared with Irina Voljanskaya in various productions including Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast . The performances were run on a 10 m * 10 m ice surface. Although he enjoyed performing in events like this and gained a lot of experience, he missed the competitions.

Ludmila Velikowa arranged for him to try ice skating again with Marija Petrowa. After a month of working together, he returned to the show events. This time he joined the Torvill and Deans tour. He soon got in touch with Velikova to run with Petrowa, but she was already training with Teimuras Pulin . When the latter ended his career, Tikhonov finally ran again with Marija Petrowa from 1998 . This time with resounding success. They immediately became European champions in 1999 and even European and world champions in 2000 . It was their only big title, but they collected numerous medals by the end of their careers in 2007. At the European Championships in 2002 , 2003 , 2005 and 2006 they won the bronze medal and in 2004 and 2007 the silver medal. At the World Championships they won bronze in 2003 and 2006 and silver in 2005 . At the Olympic Games , however, Petrowa and Tikhonov missed a medal. They finished sixth in Salt Lake City in 2002 and fifth in Turin in 2006 . The couple trained with Lyudmila Velikowa until the end.

Tikhonov and Petrowa also became a couple in private. Their daughter was born in 2010.
