Aleksander Klumberg-Kolmpere (born April 17, 1899 in Tallinn , † February 10, 1958 there ) was an Estonian athlete .

Career

The first officially recognized world record in the decathlon was set on September 16 and 17, 1922 in Helsinki by the Estonian Klumberg-Kolmpere. Aleksander Klumberg-Kolmpere took part in the Olympic Games in 1920 and 1924 .

Klumberg-Kolmpere was world best of the year in the decathlon in 1920 and 1922 and in the javelin throw in 1922 and 1923. His best performance in the decathlon was his world record, his best performance in the javelin was 63.32 m in 1921. He exceeded this performance in 1935 with 63.60 m. As a competitor, he weighed 76 kg and was 1.74 m tall.

After his active time, Klumberg-Kolmpere worked as a coach for the Polish Olympic team in 1928 and 1932 . In 1932, Janusz Kusociński, trained by him, won gold in the 10,000 meter run . After the occupation of Estonia by the Soviet Union , Klumberg-Kolmpere was exiled to Siberia. In 1955, after 10 years of forced labor, he returned home to Estonia with poor health, where he died in 1958.

The history of the decathlon in Estonia was continued by the 1964 Olympic runner-up Rein Aun , who competed for the Soviet Union, and by the 2000 Olympic champion Erki Nool .
