Hornel is a district of the city of Sontra in the Werra-Meißner district in North Hesse .
history
Hornel was mentioned as Harnayl in 1297. Another mention from this period as Harnalle is dated to 1308. In the Sontra hereditary registers from 1458 to 1471, the spelling Harnagel is used. The place is named Harnoll in 1585. The current spelling of the name has been used since 1747. For a long time Hornel was shaped by agriculture and mining.
Hornel was incorporated into Sontra in 1937. In the same year copper slate mining began. Hornel had a one-class school until 1966.
