Mitterode is a district of Sontra in the Werra-Meißner district in northern Hesse .

Geographical location

Mitterode is located north-northwest of the core town of Sontra and is surrounded by forest. The Wellingerode estate in the Sontra valley between the city center and the Wichmannshausen district belongs to the district .

history

The village was first mentioned in the 14th century, under the name Muterode or von Muterode . Even then it was part of the Sontra office . In 1465, Mitterode was granted to the Diede zum Fürstenstein family as a fiefdom of the Hessian landgrave, with whom it remained until they died out in 1807. From 1818 the place belonged to the office of Bischhausen .

As part of the regional reform in Hesse , Mitterode was incorporated into the city of Sontra on August 1, 1972.

church

The Nikolauskirche was extensively painted in 1725. In 1973 the church was renovated. An old weir storage facility was uncovered.
