Weißenborn is a district of Sontra in the Werra-Meißner district in northern Hesse .

Geographical location

Weißenborn is located in the northern foothills of the Richelsdorf Mountains about 2 km northeast of the core town of Sontra. It is surrounded by forest on the Holstein mountain ( 462.6  m ).

history

The place is first mentioned in 1345 under the place name Wyzenborne . In the middle of the 15th century the village was called Wissenborn .

On February 1, 1971, Weißenborn was incorporated into the city of Sontra as part of the regional reform in Hesse .

Attractions

The Protestant parish church in Weißenborn

The Protestant church is a building from the 13th century with a defensive tower and a crooked hip roof from 1706. The L-shaped gallery on the west and north side inside the church is dated to 1607 with inscriptions.
