The Evangelical Church Diemerode is a listed church building in Diemerode , a district of Sontra in the Werra-Meißner district ( Hesse ).

history

The eastern part of the bright, clearly structured church is a Romanesque rectangular choir from the 13th century. A hall building was added to this in 1757 in place of the original church building . The west wall of the hall building dates from 1818. A canopy ridge was attached to the roof .

Interesting from the church statistics

The church book has been available with records since 1629. The Diemerode Vicariate had the first sermon in the summer and the last sermon in the winter. During the connection with the Vicariate Rockensüß, the 3rd sermon was held in Diemerode. Pray days were only conducted in winter. In addition to the funeral sermons, parentations are also common in most cases . At that time the cemetery, here called Todtenhof , was outside the village and the existing rectory is said to have been very old.

The pastors of Diemerode and Rockensüß once held the house service at Kornberg, a former Benedictine nunnery.

Due to the Thirty Years' War , the parish (vicariate) Diemerode was connected to the parish (vicariate) Wichmannshausen due to fewer houses and from 1808 to 1816 it was merged into the "Waldkappel class".

In the "Waldkappel Class", the Diemerode parish was one of three patronage parishes, along with the Thurnhosbach branch and the Mitterode vicariate.

Furnishing

The organ was installed in 1784, it probably came from Wilhelm Schmerbach the Elder from Frieda near Eschwege .

In the church one can find the remains of a sacrament house , a testimony to the broken down early church that stood in the same place. In the church tower, under the bells, hangs the Marienglocke, an Osanna bell with the inscription: "poured into the ere gotes and maria ben ich" in 1485

Environment of the church

Well-preserved gravestones from the 18th and 19th centuries stand on the south-east wall. Remains of the former defensive wall are still preserved on the north side .
