Schnellrode is a district of Spangenberg in the Schwalm-Eder district in northern Hesse .

The Schnellröder are called "Schnarreböck", which comes from the spread of the Saxon language usage.

Geographical location

Schnellrode is located about 4.5 km north-northeast of the center of the Spangenberg core town and borders to the north with the urban area of Hessisch Lichtenau in the Werra-Meißner district . Neighboring places are the northern Retterode (to Hessisch Lichtenau) and the core city. It is located south-southeast of the Pentersrück ( 562.2  m above sea  level ), the second highest elevation of the Günsteröder Höhe , on the Essebach and on the federal road 487 , which leads from Hessisch Lichtenau through the village to Spangenberg .

The place is first mentioned as "Snellenrode" in 1353, then as "Snelnrode" in 1430 and as "Schnelrode" 1585 ".

The community Schnellrode was incorporated into the city of Spangenberg on February 1, 1971 as part of the regional reform in Hesse . At that time the place had incorporated 263 inhabitants, today around 270 people live here.

politics

The local advisory board consists of five people, all of whom belong to the Schnellrode community list. In the 2011 local elections , the turnout was 74.1 percent. Thomas Jung became the mayor .
