history
The first documentary mention was in 1209. From 1289-1445 a Conradus de Retrode and his son Henricus is proven. The local nobility was very closely connected to the Burgmannen of Hessisch Lichtenau and thus also to the Landgraves of Hesse.
The following possessions are proven: Shortly after 1376: Landgrave Hermann enfeoffed Heinrich Beyer with the village of Retterode. 1466: Landgrave Ludwig enfeoffs the Meisenbug with the village of Retterode. 1527: Heinrich Meisenbug takes back land in Retterode that his ancestors had donated to the George Altar in the Kilian Church in Lichtenau. 1568: Landgrave Wilhelm enfeoffs the Meisenbug with the village of Retterode. After the Meisenbug died out in 1811, it fell back to the state ( Kingdom of Westphalia ). 1814: Gut Retterode leased as a state domain. 1873: Sold and split.
Retterode also had its own court from 1466: Court of Meisenbug, 1569: Lower Court of Meisenbug, embarrassing court of Hesse. 1747: same 1807: Friedensgericht ( canton of Lichtenau ), 1814: Amt Lichtenau , 1821: Justice Office, the court square with split old linden tree, surrounded in a circle by ashlar wall.
There were several districts in the area of the old district. Walbachsmühle and Glimmerode are still inhabited today, Haukerode, Oberndorf and Walbach are now deserted .
On December 31, 1971, the previously independent community was incorporated into the city of Hessisch Lichtenau.
