history

The first documentary mention is for 1089, but the area around the castle was settled much earlier in Roman times. The castle and town are located directly on the Franzosenstrasse of the Middle Ages. The following desert areas can be documented: Deinebach, Eppenrode, Gerolderode and Schlicher, Habichsgeren, Lindau, Mesche, Reichenbach ruins, Suckenrode, Ober- and Nieder-Weißbach and Breitenrode, with the castle being the only building that is still visible. The castle was also the nucleus for the foundation of Hessisch Lichtenau at the time. Reichenbach was the seat of the office and court of the same name until 1490. This was then relocated to the new city, which means that the office has since been called " Office Lichtenau ".

In 1233, the Counts of Ziegenhain renounced Reichenbach Castle with the Reichenbach Castle . In 1261 the Spangenberg family owned to Reichenbach. In 1383 Eckehard von Felsberg granted Landgrave Hermann II the same rights on his farms and property in the Reichenbach court as on other farms. In 1410 Beyger Meisenbug sold his wood to Landgrave Hermann II in front of the Hagen zu Reichenbach. Before 1456, the Kaufungen monastery did not recognize claims of the force von Felsberg on goods in the court of Reichenbach. In 1471 Kraft von Felsberg waived goods in the Reichenbach court. In 1519 Count Adam von Revival received an interest from Landgrave Philipp I, among other things from the office and town of Reichenbach. In 1553 Reichenbach became a landgrave's village. In 1575/85 Reichenbach is a Plessian fiefdom of the von Hundelshausen family.

In 1640, much of the place burned down. Of 63 families only 15 remained. The next big fire was in the Seven Years War.

The place name Reichenbach had a wide variety of spellings in its history, including Richenbach in 1089, Richebach in 1209 and Rychenbach in 1436.

The Counts of Reichenbach named themselves after the castle, which lies a little outside the village . They also donated the Reichenbach monastery church and the monastery, but gave it away to the Teutonic Order in 1207/11 .

Today the parish includes the villages of Wickersrode , Hopfelde and Hollstein . As early as 1569, Reichenbach was a parish with Hollstein, Hopfelde and Wickersrode. From 1585 to 1613 Wollstein was one of them. In 1780 the Glimmerode farm in Reichenbach was parished, and in 1872 Weißmühle. The pastor's seat is in Reichenbach.

On April 1, 1972, the previously independent municipality was incorporated into the city of Hessisch Lichtenau.
