Hollstein is the smallest district of Hessisch Lichtenau in the Werra-Meißner district in northern Hesse .

history

1195 confirmed Pope Celestine III. the monastery Germerode his property, including those in "Hollstein" 1195: Monastery Germerode in Hollstein wealthy; following until 1527, including a mill. 1322: Landgrave Heinrich acquires Hollstein from the von Hollstein family. 1366: Hartm. von Wickenrode enfeoffed by Landgrave Heinrich II (Hessen) in Hollstein. Shortly after 1376: Hartm. von Wickenrode holds castle fiefs at Hollstein from Landgrave Hermann II (Hessen) . The place belonged to the Hessian office Lichtenau until 1821 and then to the district of Witzenhausen . During the French occupation, the place belonged to the canton of Lichtenau in the Kingdom of Westphalia (1807-1813).

On January 1, 1974, was in the course of administrative reform in Hesse until then the district Witzenhausen belonging municipality powerful state law in the city of Hessisch Lichtenau in the newly formed Werra-Meissner incorporated .

Attractions

Hollstein has three sights, there are the Hollesteine, two Zechstein dolomite rocks at the southern exit of the village, the "Hollensteine", a Zechstein hill with dry grass, are natural monuments in the village, from which the place name of the small village is derived. Another attraction is the Gothic church, which was rebuilt in baroque style.
