history

The village was first mentioned on April 5, 1229, when Pope Gregory IX. confirmed a property with the name Waiberg to the monastery Kaufungen . The place name at that time changed from Walberc and Waleberg to Walberg and finally to today's Walburg . The place belonged to the Hessian office Lichtenau until 1821 and then to the district of Witzenhausen . During the French occupation, the place belonged to the canton of Lichtenau in the Kingdom of Westphalia (1807-1813).

The church , which is located on a hill, was built in 1773/74 as a pre-classical hall from the Enlightenment period by JF Jussow. It stands on the foundations of a previous medieval building, for which a "plebanus" was mentioned for the first time in 1313 and the church itself was first mentioned in 1434; the first Protestant pastor can be assumed to have been since around 1527. From 1887 to 2007 Rommerode belonged to the parish . Since January 1, 2008, the Walburg parish has been connected to the Protestant parishes of Velmeden and Hausen .

On January 1, 1974, was in the course of administrative reform in Hesse until then the district Witzenhausen belonging municipality powerful state law in the city of Hessisch Lichtenau in the newly formed Werra-Meissner incorporated .

In 1879 the Kassel – Waldkappel (Lossetalbahn) railway line was built on the northern edge of the village . Since 1883 the Walburg – Großalmerode West (Gelstertalbahn) railway branched off from this in Walburg . Passenger traffic on the Walburg – Großalmerode (West) line was discontinued on June 3, 1973, followed by the railway line from Kassel to Eschwege on May 31, 1985. Freight traffic on the Lossetalbahn to Walburg was maintained until December 31, 2002.
