Velmeden is a district of Hessisch Lichtenau in the Hessian town of Northern Hesse Werra-Meissner .
geography
Velmeden is located about six kilometers northeast of Hessisch Lichtenau on the edge of the Hohe Meißner . The district is located in the Velmed Valley on the Velmede , a weir tributary. State roads 3238 and 3241 as well as district road 43 meet in the village .
history
Velmeden was first mentioned in a document in 775. In 1454 the village became a lower court . The church was built in 1397. Hausen was a parish church with the parish of Velmeden until December 31, 2007. Since January 1, 2008, these two Protestant parishes have formed a parish with the parish Walburg , in which Walburg is the seat of the parish office. On September 1, 2011, the parish of kitchens was added to this parish.
The place belonged to the Hessian office Lichtenau until 1821 and then to the district of Witzenhausen . During the French occupation , the place belonged to the canton of Lichtenau in the Kingdom of Westphalia (1807-1813).
On January 1, 1974, was in the course of administrative reform in Hesse until then the district Witzenhausen belonging municipality powerful state law in the city of Hessisch Lichtenau in the newly formed Werra-Meissner incorporated .
Railway history
Velmeden received a connection to the railway network with the Walburg – Großalmerode West railway line, which was opened in 1884 . From 1915 the Gelstertalbahn branched off to Großalmerode-Ost. Both lines were closed in 1973.
