Qiao Guanhua (1949)

Qiao Guanhua ( Chinese  喬冠華  /  乔冠华 ; born March 28, 1913 in Yancheng / Jiangsu Province ; † September 22, 1983 ) was a Chinese diplomat and politician . He was Foreign Minister of the People's Republic of China from 1974 to 1976 .

Life

After his studies and his doctorate in 1937 at the University of Tübingen , Qiao first worked as a journalist and wrote columns for the newspaper Xinhua Ribao in Chongqing during the Second World War . After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he held various positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including the post of Vice Foreign Minister from 1963 to 1974. In November 1974 he was finally appointed Foreign Minister and remained so until 1976.

In the years after 1976 he was an advisor to the Chinese People's Society for Foreign Friendship. He was also the author of various works, including a. From Munich to Dunkirk .
