Qian Qichen
Qian Qichen ( Pinyin Qián Qíchēn; Chinese 钱其琛 ; born January 5, 1928 in the Shanghai district of Jiading ; † May 9, 2017 ) was a Chinese politician . From April 1988 to March 1998 he was Foreign Minister of the People's Republic of China.
Life
He joined the Chinese Communist Party at the age of 14 . After graduating from school in 1955, he served as a diplomat in Moscow and as an ambassador in Guinea . From 1977 he held various posts in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Before his time as Foreign Minister, he was Deputy Foreign Minister from 1982 to 1988.
From 1993 until his retirement in 2003, he was also Deputy Prime Minister of the State Council of the PRC .
