Wang Yi
Wang Yi ( Chinese 王毅 , Pinyin Wáng Yì , born October 19, 1953 in Beijing ) has been the Chinese Foreign Minister since March 2013 .
Life
After graduating from school in 1969, he served in the army for eight years . From 1977 to 1982 he studied Japanese at the 2nd Beijing Foreign Language School and graduated with a master's degree in economics . He joined the Chinese Communist Party in 1981 and began working in the diplomatic service in 1982. In 2001 he became Deputy Foreign Minister, in 2004 Ambassador to Japan, and from 2008 he headed the Taiwan Affairs Bureau . In 2013 he succeeded Yang Jiechi as foreign minister.
