The Second Beijing Foreign Language University Chinese  北京 第二 外国语 学院 , Pinyin Běijīng Dì'èr Wàiguóyǔ Xuéyuàn , abbreviated 二 外 , Erwai , in the English-speaking area as Beijing International Studies University (BISU) , formerly known as Beijing Second Foreign Language University , in German also as Designated Beijing Second Foreign Language University, is a university located in Beijing, China's capital . It is currently under the administration of the Beijing Education Commission.

history

The Second Beijing Foreign Language School was founded on October 24, 1964 after the former Prime Minister of the People's Republic of China , Zhou Enlai, noticed a great need for foreign language specialists, especially in the field of cultural exchange , while traveling abroad. Foreign language teachers and graduates from various cultural institutions and universities across China have been summoned to Beijing and a new foreign language college has been established east of Beijing city, while the first Beijing foreign language college , which mainly trains diplomats, is in the west of the city. In 1983, the Second Foreign Language School was handed over to the China State Tourist Board . This resulted in a change in the research focus. Since then, the university has primarily been to train qualified specialists for tourism and at the same time bear a different name, the Chinese Tourism University. In 2000 the college was declared a city-owned university and the board labeled "Chinese Tourism College" was removed from the main entrance.

Nowadays, the Beijing Second Foreign Language School has become a multi-degree university that evolves v. a. specializes in foreign language studies and distinguishes itself through courses related to tourism. It covers a total area of ​​over 220,000 m² and can offer 8,000 study places.
