The Beijing Polytechnic University Chinese  北京 工業 大學  /  北京 工业 大学 , known in the English-speaking world as Beijing University of Technology , often Beijing Tech or Bei Gong Da (北工大), is a Chinese university in the capital Beijing . It is part of Project 211 and has developed a multidisciplinary academic structure. It offers a variety of programs and conducts research in science, technology, economics, management, liberal arts, and law. In the sports hall of the Polytechnic University, the competitions in badminton and rhythmic gymnastics took place at the 2008 Summer Olympics .

history

The Polytechnic University was founded in 1960 with five technical departments. The first group of students came from the Technical University of Peking (Beijing Institute of Technology) and the Pedagogical University Beijing . The graduate school was established in 1981 and in 1985 the school awarded the first doctoral degrees with international standards.

In 1990, the Polytechnic University took over the College of Economics and Management from Beijing Union University, and in 1993 the College of Computer Science became a part of the university. In 1993 the Polytechnic University established the Experimental College through cooperation with local companies, which later became independent. The social sciences played an important role in this for several decades. Above all, the successes of faculties in economics, law and other social sciences show that this university is de facto a large university with a large selection of schools and colleges. The Polytechnic University is located in the southeast of Beijing. The campus covers an area of ​​800,000 square meters with 4,940,000 square meters of floor space. The main library is a modern complex with a floor area of ​​more than 20,000 square meters. The inventory includes 700,000 printed media, 60,000 e-books and more than forty types of database resources that enable documentation to meet the needs of teaching and research. The library cooperates with the Beijing Capital Library and the Information Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences to provide professional service to students and faculty.

The university pursues the principle of offering a stable and trouble-free process of undergraduate education. The supply of educated and trained personnel is considered a fundamental component of China's future development and growth. The university regards the quality of teaching as the key to success. This quality is to be improved through reforms and increased development of teaching and strict management. The training of the undergraduates is based on the three factors science, technology and management. There are currently 6,811 undergraduates in 16 departments studying 26 disciplines.

The university's graduate education is tailored to the needs of the economic and social development of Beijing and China. The quality, efficiency and structure of the training should be continuously improved. Studies and scientific research programs are combined in the graduate school.

The school for higher professional education was founded in July 1996 and has more than 120 employees. These include five professors and 29 associate professors. There are four departments, “basic course”, information technology, engineering and economics & management. The disciplines include e-business, information technology and applications, internet and office automation, information and telecommunication technology, telecommunication and network technology, information and applied software, financial accounting, environmental technology, architectural technology and chemistry. The school has set up laboratories and an internal training base for higher professional education and has agreed educational cooperation with Japan, Russia, etc. The school currently has more than 1,300 students.

More than 16,000 students are enrolled at the Polytechnic University. Of these, more than 12,000 are undergraduates, almost 2,000 master’s students, over 300 doctoral students and 200 international students. There are also over 10,000 students in the training course.
