The University of Foreign Economics and Trade ( Chinese  對外 經濟 貿易 大學  /  对外 经济 贸易 大学 , Pinyin Duìwài Jīngjì Màoyì Dàxué ), known in the English-speaking world as the University of International Business and Economics, UIBE , is a university in the People's Republic of China . It is located in Beijing's urban district Chaoyang . The University of Foreign Economics and Trade currently has around 12,400 students, 2,400 of whom are international students.

history

The University of Foreign Economics and Trade was founded in 1951 as the "Beijing Foreign Economics College". As early as 1960, the government named it a "focus university" due to its excellent teaching (see project 211 ). In November 1989 , for the first time in the history of the country, a board of trustees made up of important representatives from the business world, which continues to deal with the economic development of China, met at the university. In May 1997, the University of Foreign Economics and Trade was included in Project 211 and has since established itself as one of the best universities in its field in the Chinese university landscape. It has been managed by the Ministry of Education since 2000. In the same year, the neighboring "Chinese School of Finance" was also affiliated. Research and training, in the meanwhile 15 faculties, focuses on the areas of business administration, economics, foreign languages ​​and finance (trade, corporate management and law).

International students

More than 70% of international students come from South Korea . Despite their proximity to China, North Koreans are rare. For some time now, North American and European students (from Finland , France , Italy and Germany) have also increasingly been drawn to the university. From the Asian region, Japanese , Indonesians , Vietnamese , Thais , Kazakhs , Mongols and Russians also make up a considerable part of the student body. Since 1998 there has been a French-Chinese exchange program with the Reims Management School . Another agreement exists for Spanish students from the prestigious Comillas Pontifical University .

Academic rankings

According to the “China education ministry and independent education evaluation system”, UIBE is typically listed as a top 1 or 2 out of 200 Chinese universities in the fields of economics, finance and international business. The business school, also known as "International Business School", is listed among the top 5 business schools in China according to "Forbes Magazine's China's Business School Ranking 2012".
