The Agricultural University of China ( Chinese  中国 农业 大学 , Pinyin Zhōngguó Nóngyè Dàxué , English China Agricultural University ) is a university with a focus on agriculture in Beijing . It was founded in 1905. The current structure of the university was established in 1995 with the merger of the Beijing Agricultural Engineering University and the Beijing Agricultural University.

History and structure

The university was founded in 1905. In 1949 the Agricultural Institutes of Peking University , Tsinghua University and Huabei University merged , and in 1995 there was another merger between the Peking University of Agricultural Engineering and the Peking University of Agriculture. Since then it has been called the Chinese Agricultural University.

The Chinese Agricultural University conducts research with 13 institutes in the fields of agriculture, life sciences , resources , environment , electronic data processing , computer science , agricultural engineering , economic management and social sciences . In 2005, 96 Bachelor, 60 Magister and 72 Doctoral courses were offered. The number of students in 2005 was around 20,000, of which 2,530 were masters and diploma students and 1,460 were doctoral students. In the same year, the university had 1,170 faculty, five of whom are in the Chinese Academy of Sciences and five in the Chinese Academy of Engineering . The honorary and visiting professors included, for example, the Nobel Prize winner Norman Borlaug . The university is a member of the Euroleague for Life Sciences .

Olympic sports facility

There is a large sports hall on the university campus. Construction work on the Olympic Sports Hall began on September 15, 2005 and ended almost two years later on August 18, 2007. It is located on the east campus of the university and covers an area of ​​23,950 square meters. There are 6,000 seats in the hall, which were increased by 2,500 temporary seats for the Olympic Games. In the hall were during the Olympic Games competitions in wrestling held. Sitting volleyball games were held in it during the 2008 Summer Paralympics .

Since the end of the Olympic Games and Paralympics, the sports hall has been used as a multi-purpose hall for various sports such as badminton , table tennis , gymnastics , volleyball , basketball , handball and indoor soccer .
