Doron Grossman

Doron M. Grossman (* 1956 in Tel Aviv-Jaffa ; † April 3, 2005 in Jerusalem ) was an Israeli diplomat .

Grossman studied Political Science and International Relations at Tel Aviv University and Communication Studies at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem . In 1983 he joined the Israeli diplomatic service.

His first appointment took him to Vienna , where he first served as first counselor and later as envoy at the Israeli embassy . During his further diplomatic career he became ambassador to Senegal in 1997 , and from 2002 ambassador to Ethiopia . His transfer to South Africa was planned for 2005 .

On the evening of March 29, 2005, Grossman was found seriously injured in his hotel apartment in Addis Ababa with a bullet wound to the head and his own gun in his hand and was taken to the private Hayat Hospital . The next evening he was flown out to Israel. and admitted in critical condition to Jerusalem's Hadassah University Hospital in En Kerem . He never regained consciousness and died on April 3, 2005. Police believed Grossman was suicide . There was no evidence of a criminal or terrorist background. However, no suicide note was found. Grossman had learned of terminal cancer shortly before the act .

He was buried in the Har Hamenuchot Cemetery in Jerusalem .
