Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón (born January 2, 1942 in Torrelavega , Spain ) is a Spanish film director and screenwriter .

Life

Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón studied philosophy and the humanities and then attended the state film school Escuela Oficial de Cinematografia. In his films made from 1969 onwards he dealt critically with the situation in his home country. For Sonámbulos he received the Silver Shell in 1978 at the San Sebastián Film Festival . Gutiérrez Aragón also made a name for himself as a theater director . On April 16, 2015, he was elected to the Real Academia Española to succeed José Luis Sampedro .
