Goya 2002

Alejandro Amenábar's horror film The Others dominated the presentation of the Spanish Goya film award on February 2, 2002 in the Palacio Municipal de Congresos in Madrid . The film, which was shot in English and was a favorite in advance, won 15 nominations in eight of the 27 categories, including Best Film. In this category were Vicente Aranda's Juana la Loca (13 nominations, three awards), Julio Médems Sex and Lucia (eleven nominations, two awards) and Agustín Díaz Yaness do not tempt me nominated. The latter did not win a prize in eleven nominations and thus left the event, which was moderated by the Spanish actress Rosa Maria Sardà , as a loser .

Australian actress Nicole Kidman later received a Golden Globe nomination for her portrayal of Grace Stewart in The Others . As the favorite for the award for best leading actress, she could not prevail against Pilar López de Ayala (Juana La Loca) at the Goya Awards . Kidman's nomination was very controversial as several film artists warned that the Spanish film award could come under the influence of Hollywood . The Others was co-produced by the US film industry.

Eduard Fernández ( Fausto 5.0 ) was named Best Actor. Emilio Gutiérrez Caba ( El cielo abierto ) and Rosa María Sardà ( Sin vergüenza ) won the supporting actor categories. The French film The Fabulous World of Amélie by director Jean-Pierre Jeunet received the Goya for Best European Film. The prize in the category of Best Foreign Film in Spanish went to La fuga by the Argentine Eduardo Mignogna , who describes the escape of six criminals from a prison in Buenos Aires . The honorary Goya was given to the director and screenwriter Juan Antonio Bardem , whose career began in the 1950s and who had already received awards at the Venice, Cannes and Berlin film festivals.
