Lucia and Sex is a drama from director Julio Médem . For Paz Vega , her first leading role brought her breakthrough.
action
The film tells the intricacies of the love affairs between the main characters. At the beginning, the waitress Lucia is shown with her boyfriend Lorenzo in Madrid. After the end of this relationship, Lucia flees to "the island" and gradually discovers the dark past of their relationship and the connections that the other people have with Lorenzo. Due to a misunderstanding, she believes that Lorenzo has died.
On the island she lives with Elena, who runs a holiday home there and has a relaxed relationship with the diving instructor Antonio, who lives with her under the false name Carlos as a permanent guest. Elena soon suspects that Lucia's friend Lorenzo is the father of her daughter Luna. Luna was killed by a dog at her nanny, Belén, when Lorenzo was with them after a long search for his daughter. Belén lived with her mother Manuela and her partner Antonio until all three disappeared. Elena shows Lucia the story that a chat partner had sent her, and Lucia recognizes in it the book that Lorenzo had written during their time together. She realizes that Lorenzo's book was intended for Elena: in it he offered her to return to the center and then choose another direction in order to come to another end. And through the book she learns that her own father, Lorenzo, was the cause of Luna's death: in order to seduce him, Belén locked himself in with him in the bedroom and left the child and dog unattended.
Elena finally meets Lorenzo again on the street when he was picked up by his friend Pepe after recovering from his serious accident at the hospital. For the first time since the death of her daughter, Elena can cry again. She invites all three to a big dinner without revealing anything to Lucia, who still believes Lorenzo is dead.
idea
The film tells a story with "advantages", which Elena explicitly mentions again when she reveals her thoughts on the novel written by Lorenzo. This benefit is described by symbolic falling into a hole through which one can return from the end to the middle of the story to change it. By falling into a hole on the island, Lucia also manages to change history and to bring Lorenzo, who has been pronounced dead, back to life.
Reviews
- The BBC praises "Lucia and Sex" as one of the most inventive and erotic films you are likely to see this year ( probably one of the most innovative and erotic films you will see this year ).
- The Swiss NZZ criticizes: This occasionally gives the impression that Julio Médem almost loses the thread of his highly elliptically told story at certain points, or that he not only overstrains the plausibility of the story, but also the audience's ability to combine and pay attention, like that that it then has to be regained with very explicit sex scenes.
