Paz Vega (* 2. January 1976 in Seville as María Paz Campos Trigo ) is a Spanish film actress .

life and career

Vega chose her stage name after her grandmother's last name. She began studying communication science , but dropped out and moved to Madrid to devote herself to acting .

She had her first appearances in television series such as Compañeros and Siete Vidas . The first significant role in the film was that of Lucía in Lucia and Sex (2001), directed by Julio Médem . In the same year she played the leading role alongside Sergi López in Sólo mía . For both roles she was nominated for the Spanish Goya Film Award in 2002, which she finally won in the Best Young Actress category for her performance in Médem's work .

In 2002 Vega had a short supporting role in Pedro Almodóvar's Hable con ella and starred in Emilio Martínez Lázaro's Bedside Stories , the most successful Spanish film of the year.

In 2003 Vega was the protagonist in the film adaptation of Prosper Mérimée's novel Carmen , directed by Vicente Aranda .

In 2004, Vega first starred in Hollywood , alongside Adam Sandler , in the film Spanglish by director James L. Brooks .

In 2017 she was accepted into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), which awards the Oscars every year.

Personal

In 2002, Vega married the Venezuelan businessman Orson Salazar. The couple are parents of two sons (* 2007 and 2010) and one daughter (* 2009).

  • In 2001, Vega was awarded the Premios Ondas Film Prize in the Best Actress category for her role in Lucia and Sex .
  • In 2002 Vega received numerous awards. She received a Chopard trophy at the Cannes International Film Festival . For her role in Sólo mía she was nominated for the CEC Award in the category Best Actress by the Spanish Círculo de Escritores Cinematográficos . She was named the winner of the Sant Jordi of the Premios Sant Jordi for the best Spanish actress (Mejor Actriz Española) for Lucía and the Sex and Sólo mía , the Spanish Academy of Arts and Cinematic Sciences nominated her for Lucía and the Sex for the Goya in the Best Lead Actress category and awarded her the Goya in the Best Young Actress category (Mejor Actriz Revelación) for the same film .
  • Further international awards followed in 2004. She was nominated for the European Film Academy's Audience Award in the Best Actress category for the lead role in Vicente Aranda's film adaptation of Carmen and was awarded a PFCS Award by the Phoenix Film Critics Society for her role in Spanglish .
  • In 2016 she received the “Premio Málaga Sur” award at the 19th Málaga International Film Festival for her successful career.
