action

Jack Bishop works as a bank clerk and lives with his wife Amaya and daughter Toby from their first marriage in the city of Del Rio (Texas) on the US-Mexican border . His daughter disappears. At first he thinks she is mad at him because they argued that morning. But when he finds one of her shoes behind a sports field, where she disappeared, he and his wife alert the police. The FBI later takes over the investigation and finds a first suspect who is quickly found through a large-scale manhunt on television. However, he turns out to be innocent. Jack begins his own investigation. However, the FBI reveals that Jack only appears to have existed for ten years. Then it turns out that his name is not Jack, but Roberto and that he used to work as a hit man for the Mexican Mafia. He moved from Oklahoma to Mexico with his drug addict mother , and ended up on the streets after her death. He married Katie, now believed to be dead, and had his daughter Toby with her. During his investigation, Jack meets an acquaintance who works as a prostitute. She wants to help him find Toby and meet with him. However, he finds her dead at the meeting point. The FBI suspects him to have committed the murder of her, but that is not true. He flees from the FBI to Acuna, Mexico, where he continues to look for Toby.

Jack lures the supposed kidnapper to a hotel, where he beats him up. The kidnapper says Toby is with his ex-wife Katie. Jack kills him and seeks out his ex-wife, but Toby cannot be found there. He kills them too. But he finds out that Toby has been kidnapped by his wife Amaya and her cousin, the sheriff. Amaya explains that Jack murdered her father back then and that she is now taking revenge. She and the sheriff set fire to the room in which Toby and Jack are, but Jack can untie his daughter and escape in time.

In the final scene it becomes clear that Jack and Toby's escape was part of the plan. Amaya told Toby that Jack killed her mother, which was also true due to the misinformation of the initially alleged kidnapper. The plan is for Toby to kill her father, which ends the movie.
