Simon Baker (born July 30, 1969 in Launceston , Tasmania alias Simon Baker Denny, Denny Baker, Simon Denny ) is an Australian actor and director .

Life

Baker's mother, Elizabeth Labberton, was a high school English teacher; his father worked as a caretaker and mechanic. The parents divorced early and his mother married a second time. He has a sister and three younger half-siblings. After graduating from high school, he began training as a nurse in Sydney, which he dropped out early.

As an actor, he first appeared in the 1987 feature film Midnight Magic . After a number of appearances in various television series, including the Australian soap opera Home and Away and the series Heartbreak High , which was also broadcast in Germany , he received a Logie Award for his appearance in the soap opera E Street , a prestigious Australian television award for “Most Popular Young Actor “ (Most Popular New Talent) .

In 1997 he played a role in the film LA Confidential by director Curtis Hanson , through which he became known to a larger audience. Further film productions followed, including those in Who Rides With The Devil (1999), Red Planet (2000), The Ring 2 , Land of the Dead and That doesn't last a year ...! . In the television series The Guardian - Savior with Heart and The Mentalist , he took on the leading role. For the latter series, he received an Emmy nomination in 2009 . In 2010 he was for a Golden Globe as Best series actor nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award as Best Actor in a television series . He was nominated for the People's Choice Award 2011 in the Best TV Crime Fighter category. The 9th episode of the 3rd season (Red Moon) and the 7th episode of the 4th season are directed by Simon Baker. Baker received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on February 14, 2013 . Baker made his directorial debut with the film Breath in 2017. In 2020 he played in the action thriller High Ground .

Simon Baker has been married to actress Rebecca Rigg since 1998 . The couple have three children together, a daughter and two sons.
