Simon Baker (athlete)

Simon Baker ( Simon Francis Baker ; born February 6, 1958 in Melbourne ) is a former Australian walker .

In 20 km walking he came in 29th at the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki in 1983 and 14th at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

In 1986 he won the Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh in walking 30 km. After a 24th place over 20 km at the 1987 World Cup in Rome, he was sixth in the 50 km walk and eleventh in the 20 km walk at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul . He was seventh at the World Indoor Athletics Championships in 1989 in Budapest over 5000 m walking and at the Commonwealth Games in 1990 in Auckland over 30 km walking.

At the 1991 World Cup in Tokyo, he did not reach the goal over 50 km. Over the same distance he finished 19th at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona and 14th at the 1993 World Championships in Stuttgart. At the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria he was sixth over 30 km. In 1996 he was disqualified from walking 50 km at the Atlanta Olympics .

He was twice Australian champion in 5000 m walking (1988, 1989), twice in 20 km walking (1985, 1988) and once in 50 km walking (1989).
