Pachuca de Soto is the capital of the Mexican state of Hidalgo . The city has about 256,000 inhabitants. It is 2426 m above sea level. NN and has an extension of 195.3 km².
The mean annual temperature is 14 degrees Celsius. The annual rainfall amounts to 400 - 800 mm.
Pachuca has a university, the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Hidalgo , and a history museum.

history
Around 12,000 BC Green obsidian was already mined and processed in the area. The Aztecs founded the city as Patlachihuacán around 1438 AD. The first Spaniards lived there around 1524, who re-established the place as a Spanish settlement in 1530 and granted it city rights in 1534. In 1552 the silver deposits were discovered. After several centuries of intensive exploitation of the mineral resources in and around Pachuca, the last mine was closed in 2005.
