Pachuca de Soto is a municipality in the Mexican state of Hidalgo . It belongs to the metropolitan area of Pachuca City . The seat of the municipality is the eponymous Pachuca de Soto , which is also the capital of the central Mexican state. The municipality had 267,862 inhabitants in 2010, its area is 154.5 km² .

The municipality of Pachuca de Soto is located in the south of the center of the state of Hidalgo, about 100 km northeast of Mexico City . It borders the Municipios Mineral del Chico , Mineral del Monte , Zempoala , Zapotlán de Juárez , Mineral de la Reforma, and San Agustín Tlaxiaca .
