Atotonilco de Tula is a municipality in the Mexican state of Hidalgo , not far from Tula de Allende . The seat of the municipality is the homonymous Atotonilco de Tula . The community had 31,078 inhabitants in 2010, its area is 121.7 km² .

The municipality Atotonilco de Tula is located in the south of the state of Hidalgo, 85 km north of Mexico City, at over 2000  m above sea level.

Atotonilco de Tula borders in the west on the municipalities Tepeji del Río de Ocampo and Tula de Allende , in the north on Atitalaquia and in the northeast on Ajacuba and in the east and south on the state of México .
