The Málaga Film Festival , officially the Festival de Málaga Cine en Español ( FMCE ), is a film festival that takes place annually in March or April in Málaga ( Spain / Andalusia ).

history

Biznaga

The film festival was first held from March 9th to 17th, 1998. The guest of honor at the first event was the Spanish actor and director Fernando Fernán Gómez , the retrospective was dedicated to the Spanish filmmaker Montxo Armendáriz . The Málaga Film Festival shows feature films , short films , animated films and documentaries with Spanish and Latin American references. The aim of the festival is to promote and disseminate Spanish film, to create forums, discussions and meetings, and to analyze and present the audiovisual fields.

The “Biznaga de Oro” (“ Golden Jasmine ”) is awarded as the main prize for the best feature film . Other awards are "Biznagas de Plata" (" Silver Jasmine") for numerous categories, and some honorary prizes are also given.

The award ceremony traditionally takes place in the "Teatro Cervantes" theater .

In 2020 the festival had to be canceled or postponed for the first time due to precautionary measures due to the spread of the coronavirus .

The festival's film presentations will be held in the Teatro Cervantes, Teatro Echegaray , Cine Albéniz , CCP María Victoria Atencia , Museo Carmen Thyssen and Museo Picasso .

Other places for festival-related activities are the Plaza de la Merced, the Calle Alcazabilla, the Rectorado UMA, the Sala Alameda Cajamar, the Yelmo Cines Vialia and the Palacio Episcopal.
