Benigno and Alicia

The Spaniard Benigno has been looking after his mentally ill mother for 15 years and has not had any contact with his Swedish father for a long time. He lives with his mother across from a ballet school. If he looks out the window, he can watch the students dance. He falls in love with one of these students, Alicia. This, the daughter of a psychiatrist, knows nothing of his love. To get closer to her, Benigno goes to her father's psychological consultation.

When Benigno wants to visit Alicia after his mother's death, he learns that she is in a vegetative state due to a traffic accident . Benigno, who works as a nurse, is hired by Alicia's father to look after her, which, as he himself says, is the best time of his life.

Marco and Lydia

The Argentine Marco Zuluaga has worked as a journalist in Spain. After seeing the torera Lydia on TV, he wants to write an article about her and gets to know her. A love relationship develops between Marco and Lydia. This contact helps both of them to process their previous love relationships.

A few months later Lydia faces a bullfight in which she is seriously injured and falls into a coma. In the hospital, Marco becomes friends with Benigno and learns from him that he has been loving Alicia for four years, including hairdressing and talking to her. Since Marco has difficulty staying in emotional contact with Lydia, Benigno advises Marco to speak to Lydia as well. Shortly before Marco is able to open up to Lydia, he learns from Lydia's former lover Niño that he and Lydia were reconciled shortly before their last bullfight. Marco is disappointed and travels to Jordan to work on a travel guide.

In Jordan he reads about Lydia's death in the newspaper and calls the hospital to find out more. He is told that Benigno is no longer working in the hospital, that Alicia is pregnant, that Benigno is accused of abusing Alicia and that he is now in prison.

Marco drives back to Spain, visits Benigno in prison and moves into his apartment, which is furnished with lots of things reminiscent of Alicia. Benigno wants to know how Alicia is doing and whether the child was born.

Marco discovers that Alicia was stillborn but awoke from her coma and is now busy with her rehabilitation. He wants to tell Benigno about it, but his lawyer advises against it.

The next morning, Marco receives a message in which Benigno announces that he wants to "escape prison" by putting himself into a coma by taking pills so that he can always be with Alicia. Marco immediately drives to the jail to tell him that Alicia has woken up. However, Benigno is already dead.
