Pepi, Luci, Bom and the rest of the gang (original title: Pepi, Luci, Bom y otras chicas del montón ) is a punk film by Pedro Almodóvar and its cinema debut. It takes place in 1980, in the middle of Madrid's Movida .

action

Pepi grows marijuana in the apartment, is raped by a police officer and seeks revenge. She wants to have friends, the Bomitoni, beat him up, a punk rock group, but it doesn't hit the rapist, but his twin brother. Bom is Pepi's friend and singer of the Bomitoni. Together with her she befriends - still on revenge - with Luci, the masochistic wife of the police officer. Luci leaves her husband and becomes Boms submissive playmate. The three enjoy the wild parties and concerts of the Madrid underground life of the Movida, where Pedro Almodóvar personally organizes an erection competition. Luci, although constantly abused by her sadistic husband, returns to him. There are still Pepi and Bom - the girls from the gang -, hand in hand and full of ideas they plan their future.

Reviews

" Almodóvar's pompous, entertaining and powerful debut , which deals with many of the director's favorite subjects: housewives, penis size, garish clothes, kitsch style, friendship between women, drugs, violence in sex ..."

- Karl A. Erber : almodovarlandia

“You can be angry with a film that was made by a man who was still working full-time for the telephone company (…) of course not, but it never feels like a timeless masterpiece - like, let's say, David Lynch 's Eraserhead , also a feature film debut - to attend.
Still, Pepi, Luci, Bom ... is a real Almodóvar. The director's topic of love, violence, death and sexual identity is already mentioned here. "

background

The film was shot in Madrid. Almodóvar and his brother Agustín appear in supporting roles.

The film is not included in the large DVD box released around 2008, and neither is Matador . It was first published in Germany in 2010 outside of the Almodóvar edition, but with the same layout, on DVD.

“In 1992 Pedro Almodóvar had gotten to the point where Joaquin Sabina, the Bob Dylan of Spanish, wrote a song about him. Both were born in 1949 and come from small provincial towns in the heart of Spain. Both were sent to a Catholic boarding school and settled in the big city as soon as they were adults. Sabina threw a Molotov cocktail into a government building and fled into exile. Almodóvar put office work at Telefónica, Spain’s Telecom, until three in the afternoon and then threw himself into the Madrid underground. He had long hair, dressed boldly, and no longer tried to hide his gayness. Wherever the scene produced itself - theater makers, young designers, hustlers, punks, street singers, dealers, short film makers, prostitutes - the boy from Don Quixote's homeland was there. "

- Hanns-Georg Rodek : Welt-online, November 3, 2008)

The lines that Joaquín Sabina dedicated to Almodóvar Pepi, Luci, Bom ... in the title Yo quiero ser una chica contained on his album Física y química :

"I want to be a girl from Almodóvar / like Pepi, like Luci, like Bom, / sell my secrets in bed to the elegance / and mourn a matador."
