Alberto Iglesias Fernández-Berridi (* 1955 in San Sebastián ) is a Spanish composer , particularly of electronic music and film music .

biography

Iglesias studied piano , harmony and counterpoint in his hometown. He later studied composition and piano with Francis Schwartz in Paris and electroacoustic composition with Gabriel Brnčić in Barcelona . As an interpreter, the period between 1981 and 1986 was his most fertile period when he formed a duo with Javier Navarrete that played and composed electronic music . They presented their own pieces on several tours.

In 1991/92 Iglesias wrote his first film music for Julio Médem's feature film debut Vacas - Kühe , for which Iglesias created a much-praised sound description of the forest that is the central location of the film. Julio Médem received a Goya for Best New Director for this film in 1993 , and Iglesias received his first nomination for Best Score. Since then he has been awarded the Goya seven times (four of which for films directed by Médem), making him the most award-winning film music composer. He also created the score for several Pedro Almodóvar films , including Live Flesh , All About My Mother , Talk To Her , La Mala Educación - Bad Upbringing, and Volver - Returning .

At the 2006 Academy Awards , he was nominated in the film music category (original score) for The Eternal Gardener . Months later, Iglesias won the 2006 European Film Awards for best film composer for his work on Almodóvar's film Volver - Return . For the film music for the film drama The Dragon Runner (2007) he was nominated for the Golden Globe Award and the Satellite Award and again for an Oscar .
