The 19th European Film Prize was awarded on December 2, 2006 . For the first time, the award ceremony took place in Warsaw . The event was moderated by the French actress Sophie Marceau and her Polish colleague Maciej Stuhr .

The six-time nominated German production The Lives of Others by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck was the best European film . The Stasi drama with Ulrich Mühe , Sebastian Koch and Martina Gedeck in the leading roles also received prizes in the categories of Best Actor (Ulrich Mühe) and Best Screenplay .
