European Film Award 2019
The 32nd awarding of the European Film Prize took place on December 7, 2019 in Berlin in the Haus der Berliner Festspiele . The prize is awarded by the European Film Academy (EFA). After last year the gala in Seville ( Spain ) had taken place, she was awarded for the 15th time in the German capital, the seat of EFA. The German actress Anna Brüggemann and her Lithuanian colleague Aistė Diržiūtė were chosen as presenters.
The shortlist of the feature films was presented on August 20, 2019, that of the documentaries on August 27, 2019. The full nominations were announced on November 9, 2019 at the Seville European Film Festival . As best European film was intrigue and madness - The Favorite of Giorgos Lanthimos excellent.
The regulations were changed in 2019 with the aim of reducing the number of selected films, democratizing the nomination process and treating all countries equally. Among other things, direct voting of feature films in the 20 countries with the most EFA members has been abolished. In order to be able to participate in the EFAs, in addition to the previous criteria, a film must either have received an award at a major festival or attracted a lot of attention at film festivals, or it must have been sold or awarded in at least three countries (one country for documentaries).
Also in 2019, a prize for the best European series (New European Achievement in Fiction Series Award) was introduced for the first time, honoring the German directors and screenwriters Achim von Borries , Hendrik Handloegten and Tom Tykwer for their work on Babylon Berlin .
The German director, producer, actor, voice actor and writer Werner Herzog received the Lifetime Achievement Award , while Juliette Binoche received the award for the best European performance in world cinema .
