May el-Toukhy

May el-Toukhy (born August 17, 1977 in Charlottenlund , Denmark ) is a Danish film director and screenwriter .

Life

After completing school, she studied at the Statens Teaterskole ( State Theater School ) in Copenhagen from 1998 to 2002 . May el-Toukhy then completed further training as a film director at Den Danske Filmskole until 2009 . In 2009 she worked for the first time as an assistant director on the television film Camping and the television series Borgen - Hazardous rope teams .

In addition, El-Toukhy won the Nordic Talent Pitch Prize in the Nordic Talents competition for young talent in 2009 for her film Cairo , which was accompanied by prize money of DKK 250,000 . In addition, she realized several radio plays for Danmarks Radio .

In 2015 she was awarded the Erik Ballings travel grant , which includes prize money of 50,000 crowns. In 2015 May el-Toukhy also directed the Danish feature film Lang historie kort with actors Trine Dyrholm , Jens Albinus and Danica Curcic . For this film she was awarded the Danish Film Prize Bodil in the category Best Screenplay in 2016. Also in 2016 she was awarded the Nordisk Film Prize, which includes prize money of 110,000 kroner.
