The ways of the Lord (Danish Herrens Veje , English Ride Upon the Storm ) is a 20-part Danish television series by the scriptwriter Adam Price with Lars Mikkelsen in one of the leading roles, for which he was awarded the International Emmy Award .

The series is about the entanglements of the venerable pastor family Krogh. The dominant Johannes (Lars Mikkelsen) wants to become Bishop of Copenhagen, but is subject to his colleague Monica (Laura Bro). His sons are strongly influenced by the father:

August (Morten Hee Andersen), himself a pastor, wants to prove himself as a pastor in a war effort, but shoots a Muslim woman whose image haunts him in recurring apparitions from now on. Despite psychological treatment, he cannot get rid of it. This is also due to the fact that his father, whom he tells about it, imposes strict silence on him. This burdens the young pastor in his marriage to the doctor Emilie ( Fanny Louise Bernth ) and leads to a catastrophe at the end of the first season.

His brother Christian (Simon Sears), on the other hand, dropped out of his theology studies immediately before his exams, cheated on his master's thesis at a business school, was expelled and ended up sleeping with his best friend's girlfriend, Mark. Mark only found out about it on a joint trip to Nepal and immediately separated from Christian. In his desperate situation, he falls down a steep slope, but is saved by a Buddhist monk. With this he learns through breathing exercises and careful work to overcome his inner restlessness and his superficiality.

The mother ( Ann Eleonora Jørgensen ) falls in love with the Norwegian Liv and has an affair with her. The father suffers from severe alcohol abuse, which affects the community and his family.

The German-language synchronization of the series was created by TaunusFilm Synchron GmbH in Berlin. The author of the dialogue books is Christoph Cierpka. Antonia Ganz and Cierpka directed the dialogue .
