Mr. Jones is a 2019 film drama directed by Agnieszka Holland. The film tells how Gareth Jones traveled to the Soviet Union in 1933 and worked as an investigator .

action

Gareth Jones is an ambitious young journalist who became famous for his interview with Adolf Hitler . Thanks to his connections with the government of Lloyd George , he receives UK permission to travel to the Soviet Union. Jones tries to interview Stalin and find out more about the economic expansion of the Soviet Union and its five-year plan . Jones is confined to Moscow but unofficially travels to Ukraine to learn more about the Holodomor (the famine in Ukraine in 1932 and 1933).

The film had its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2019 and was nominated for best film there. The distribution rights for North America were acquired from Samuel Goldwyn Films in August 2019 .

On Rotten Tomatoes , the film received a rating of 78% based on 18 reviews. On Metacritic, the film got a score of 63% based on reviews from 6 critics, indicating “generally favorable reviews”.

The Guardian's Peter Bradshaw rated the film 4 out of 5 stars, calling it “a bold, heartfelt film with a real Lean-ian touch ”. The Telegraph's Tim Robey gave the film 3 stars out of 5. He praises Peter Sarsgaard for his performance and for bringing out the film's "unfortunately unused" potential.
