action
The film is set in Poland from 1981 to 1984. Poland suffers from a state of war. Stefan is a supporter of communism . The story is told from his point of view.
The priest Alek has very good contacts with the opposition to the communist regime and works closely with the Solidarność activists . Alek preaches against the regime and is under surveillance by the secret service. Stefan ensures that the young man Feliks with an invented biography as a deserted militia member gets access to the circle around Priest Alek. This works. Feliks gains access to the priest's apartment and can place a radio station and leaflets there, which are found during a search. Alek is arrested, but is released at the bishop's request. The young priest is now supposed to leave Poland and go to John Paul II in the Vatican . However, he rejects the possibility of exile and is celebrated for it by his community on his return. When Stefan found out one day that Alek was going to travel to Kutno , he and Feliks and Igor stopped the priest's car on the way back to Warsaw . The priest is murdered.
Reviews
- Lexicon of international film : The conflict between church and state in Poland in the 1980s is essentially reduced to the archaic conflict between Cain and Abel, the martyr and his murderer. It appeals to the audience's emotions, but the harrowing effect of the facts is not achieved in fiction.
