Ed Harris
Edward "Ed" Allen Harris (born November 28, 1950 in Tenafly , New Jersey ) is an American actor , screenwriter and director who is considered one of the leading American character actors of his generation. He often appears as a high-profile supporting actor, including in the film drama Apollo 13 as Gene Kranz , head of mission control.
Life
Harris graduated from Columbia University in New York , where he focused on sports. After acting piqued his interest, he decided to take acting classes. After graduating, he went to Los Angeles , where he first played in smaller theaters and took on his first television roles. He made his Broadway debut in 1983 in Sam Shepard's play Fool for Love , for which he received an Obie Award .
In the same year Harris played the astronaut John Glenn in the film The Stuff the Heroes are made of, based on the novel by Tom Wolfe . Since then he has been considered one of the great character actors in American cinema, who is also able to give small supporting roles an unmistakable face with his style of play, such as in Jacknife , Glengarry, Glen Ross , Die Firma , Apollo 13 , Nixon , The Rock - rock of decision , The Truman Show , A Beautiful Mind - Genius and Madness , The Hours - From Eternity to Eternity and in A History of Violence . Ed Harris first directed it in 2000, and the result was Pollock , a biography of the painter Jackson Pollock . Harris himself starred in it. In 2008 he directed his second film, Western Appaloosa . He was also involved in the script for this film and also as a producer.
Harris has been married to actress Amy Madigan since November 21, 1983 , with whom he has a daughter (* 1993).
